Category B
1. Students may choose to present a speech on any topic of their choice for the preliminary round but they are reminded that their speeches cannot have any racial, political or other sensitive undertones.
2. The speech can be inspiring, entertaining, informative or a eulogy.
3. Speeches can be either original or adapted. Quotes can be used and must be cited.
4. The bell will be rung ONCE at 3:00 minutes and TWICE at 4 minutes.
5. A copy of the speech must be submitted to the participant's homeroom teacher or English Language teacher to allow for checking of content and language.
6. All speeches must be memorized and no reading is allowed. The use of discreet cue cards are also not permitted.
7. No slippers/ sandals are allowed. Participants must wear the school uniforms during competition.
8. A microphone will be provided on stage during contest.
9. The use of props and background music will not be allowed.
